Carl Stevens' Journal: A Poem On The Republican Debate

How are you doing? How do you feel?
Are you dizzy like a cog in a silly wheel?
Did you take a bite of the exploding cake
Which was the latest Republican debate?
I felt a bit lost in a cartoon fog
As I paddled through the dialogue,
Dominated by insults, jabs and darts,
References to various body parts.
Your hands are small, your ears are big,
Your hair looks like a warlock's wig.
You eat food that's made in France,
Your aging mom wears army pants.
You sweat when its hot and sneeze when it's cold,
You're much too young, you're much too old.
Your eyebrows look like a forest fire,
Your empty mind is a gun for hire,
You're too fat, you've got wide hips,
You've got something funny there on your lips.
You're stupid, you're little, you're tired, you're spent:
And all these guys could be president!
But before you get righteous and make a big fuss
Remember this mess was made by us.
I know it sounds silly, I know how you feel,
It's a circus, but we made the Ferris wheel.
They call each other names: "you jerk," "you dope,"
But they were put on that stage by all of our votes.
Their banter can sound like bruising cicadas,
But democracy can be a mess of mashed potatoes.
We're the ones who decide which way this all goes:
So either change the channel or enjoy the show.
