Celtics Assign R.J. Hunter To Maine

BOSTON (CBS) -- Celtics rookie R.J. Hunter hasn't seen much of the floor recently, so he's heading to the D-League to get that opportunity.

Boston assigned Hunter, the 28th pick in last June's NBA Draft, to the Maine Red Claws on Thursday. The rookie has seen just 19 total minutes of game action in seven appearances over the last two months, and has seen the floor in just 28 games this season.

Hunter has been a good sport and an energetic teammate on the Boston bench this season as he learns the ropes in the NBA. Heading to Maine will give him a chance to log some minutes rather than sit at the end of Boston's bench waiting for garbage minutes. Or high fives, like Wednesday night.

Hunter was left hanging by Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas after the guard checked out of Boston's 116-93 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. His reaction was pretty priceless, and Thomas took to Twitter on Thursday to assure Hunter, and Celtics fans, it wouldn't happen again.

In his 28 games this season, Hunter is averaging 2.4 points per game on 31 percent shooting from the floor.
