Read Across America Day Celebrates Dr. Seuss' Impact
NORTH ANDOVER (CBS) -- Oh, the places you'll go!
That's the message to kids all across the country Wednesday for "Read Across America Day," celebrated on the birthday of Dr. Seuss.
Here in Massachusetts, where Theodor Seuss Geisel was born 112 years ago in Springfield, a number of big names are participating and urging students to pick up a book instead of a video game.
Gov. Charlie Baker read "Green Eggs And Ham" to the Kittredge Elementary School in North Andover. He says Dr. Seuss was a genius for his ability to craft stories that appeal to kids.
"That whole idea of repetition, that whole idea of creating a story that a kid can grab onto and follow through with pretty quickly – just brilliant stuff," Baker said.
New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder also read to children Wednesday, stopping by the Francis Wyman School in Burlington.
This is the 19th Read Across America Day.
