LITTLETON (CBS) — A person fell through the ice in Littleton overnight while trying to retrieve a drone, officials said.

Firefighters responded to Mill Pond Wednesday morning after a maintenance worker saw a hole in the ice and footprints leading toward it. The worker also spotted a drone on the ice in the middle of the pond, the fire department said.

Authorities eventually discovered footprints leading out of the pond and toward a house. Fire officials were able to confirm that a person did fall through the ice overnight, but was able to get out on their own.

A firefighter will likely use a special suit to go out and retrieve the drone Wednesday so that no one else falls through trying to reach it.

The fire department is also reminding people that it’s not safe to be out on the ice.
