Red Sox Reportedly Agree To Deal With Outfielder Chris Young

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox have added another outfielder to the mix, reportedly agreeing to a multi-year deal with 10-year veteran Chris Young.

The deal is currently pending a physical, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Young, 32, hit .252 with 14 HR and 42 RBIs in 140 games for the New York Yankees last season. He is a career .235 hitter over his career but has some impressive numbers against lefties, posting a .972 OPS against southpaws last season with a .362 OBP and .837 OPS for his career.

Young is mainly a center fielder but has played all three outfield positions in his career. He played 76 games in right for New York last season with 55 games in left and 15 games in center. He owns a fielding percentage of .990 over his career.

He also has some good numbers at Fenway Park, albeit in a very small sample, hitting .344 with a .431 OBP, eight doubles and three homers in 21 career games.

Young will be in the mix as Boston's fourth outfielder, with Mookie Betts, Jackie Bradley Jr., Rusney Castillo and Brock Holt already in place. While the team is trying to move Hanley Ramirez to first base, the reported signing of Young makes a trade this offseason involving one of their outfielders very likely.
