Body Of 'Baby Doe' Bella Bond Released, Clearing Way For Funeral

BOSTON (CBS) – The medical examiner has released the body of Bella Bond, previously known only as Baby Doe, clearing the way for her funeral to take place nearly five months after her body was found on Deer Island.

Joe Amoroso, the biological father of Bella Bond, confirmed to WBZ-TV that the toddler's body had been released.

A second autopsy had been agreed to on the girl's body, delaying funeral services.

Rachelle Bond, Bella's mother, and her boyfriend Michael McCarthy are charged in connection with the girl's death. Investigators say McCarthy killed the child and Bond helped cover up her daughter's death.

Family members had previously said they planned to hold a public funeral for Bella, whose identity was unknown for months after she was discovered.

But Amoroso said the services will be private because it is what Rachelle Bond wants.

No funeral date has been set.
