Baby Girl Born On Mass Pike In Natick

NATICK (CBS) – A couple welcomed its new addition into the world Friday on the Mass Pike in Natick after the mother went into labor and delivered before EMTs could arrive to assist.

The father was driving with expecting around 6:30 a.m., heading eastbound towards Boston on the Mass Pike when he was forced to pull over so the woman could give birth to a baby girl.

A Natick Fire Department dispatcher spoke to the father after the baby was born and instructed him to wrap the baby in a blanket to keep her warm until help could arrive.

The dispatcher also helped keep the couple calm until paramedics arrived.

When the ambulance reached the family, the mother and baby were both in "great condition." They were taken to an area hospital and are in good health.

"Best wishes for happy, healthy life ahead," Massachusetts State Police tweeted after initially fielding the father's 911 call.

"Great job also to Natick Fire Dept. and ambulance crew. Always a team effort."
