After 80-Year Absence, High School Football Returning To Fenway Park

BOSTON (CBS) -- Thanksgiving and High School football are the perfect pairing. Now, you can add Fenway Park to that mix.

A handful of schools can now add a trip to the famous ballyard to their Turkey Day agenda, as Fenway Sports Management announced that four Thanksgiving football rivalries will take over Fenway Park next month. It's the first time since 1935 that High School football games will be played at Fenway.

The home of the Red Sox will feature a doubleheader on both Thanksgiving eve and Thanksgiving Day, featuring some of Greater Boston's most iconic matchups. Here's this year's schedule:

Wednesday, November 25
Xaverian vs. Saint John's Prep
(Xaverian leads St. John's Prep in the overall series 26-20)
Boston College High vs. Catholic Memorial (BC High holds a 36-16-1 series lead over Catholic Memorial)

Thursday, November 26
Wellesley vs. Needham
(Wellesley holds a 60-58-9 edge in the oldest public high school rivalry in the country)
Boston English vs. Boston Latin (Boston Latin has a 78-36-13 series lead ahead of the 129th meeting of the two teams, making it the oldest continuous high school football rivalry in the U.S.)

All eight teams received a tour through Fenway Park on Thursday and took some time after to take pictures on the field.

"High School football takes center stage on Thanksgiving in one of New England's longest-standing sporting traditions," said Fenway Sports Management President Sam Kennedy. "This is going to be an unforgettable experience for all the young athletes, parents, alumni and fans of these high school football teams."

Tickets for the Thanksgiving games go on-sale October 8 at noon. They run $20, with $5 of every ticket sold going to the each patron is supporting.

The last football game played at Fenway was December 1, 1968, when the then Boston Patriots defeated Cincinnati, 33-14.
