'Baby Doe' Vigil Held At Deer Island

WINTHROP (CBS) -- A vigil was held Saturday night for the toddler, known as "Baby Doe," found dead on Deer Island in Winthrop in June.

On a windswept rocky ledge, a memorial continues to grow at the site.

More than two months after a 4-year-old girl's body was found on the beach, there are still no answers. Only questions.

Who is she? Who left her here? And why?

Those who pass by each day ask the same questions.

"How can a human being do this to a child? That's my question," says Tracey Schraffa of Revere. "You'd have to be an animal. You're not a human being; you're a monster.

"I can't imagine what they did to this poor baby."

The vigil is the second time such an event has happened.

One look at the memorial makes it obvious that this is a case that has touched many hearts.

"I just think that it's horrible we don't even know where this little girl's from," says Revere resident Lynda McKinnon, "And you just abandon your own kid and you don't come forward and say 'Yes, that's my baby.'"

"It's a disgrace. What parent can do that?"
