Uxbridge Traffic Stop Leads To Arrest Of 'Dangerous Felon,' Police Say

UXBRIDGE (CBS) -- Uxbridge police say a routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a "dangerous felon" wanted on nearly a dozen warrants early Saturday morning.

An officer stopped a car for speeding on Route 146 near Exit 2 around 2:23 a.m., according to the Uxbridge police Facebook page.

A black man driving the vehicle gave the officer a California driver's license, police said.

The license number actually was assigned to a woman in California.

The driver could not provide police with any other identification, and the name and date of birth matched a white man who lives in California, police say.

The man was arrested and later identified as Phillip Reid, 32, of Roslindale after being fingerprinted at Webster police station.

He was found to have outstanding warrants including carrying a firearm without a license, firearm possession (large capacity), firearm violation with two prior drug crime convictions, firearm with a defaced serial number, two counts of assault and battery, witness/juror/police/court intimidation, possession to distribute a Class A and B drugs, and resist arrest.

Uxbridge police also have charged Reid with using a motor vehicle without authority and operating with a suspended license, possession of a forged motor vehicle document, giving a false name to a police officer, and speeding.

Webster, Douglas and State police assisted with the investigation.

Reid is being held without bail until his arraignment in Uxbridge District Court on Monday.
