Hanley Ramirez Sent Back To Boston, DL Trip Possible

BOSTON (CBS) -- Red Sox left fielder Hanley Ramirez is back in Boston, and is likely heading to the disabled list.

Ramirez was sent back to Boston ahead of Sunday's 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays for an MRI on his left hand. Ramirez has missed the last four games after being struck on that hand by a line drive off the bat of Xander Bogaerts while running the bases.

The Sox slugger is heading back because his recovery has not progressed as well as the team had hoped over the last couple of days.

"At this time tomorrow, we'll get a better read on his roster status and if there's anything in addition to what was determined with the CT scan and the X-ray," Boston manager John Farrell said of Ramirez. "Unfortunately, he's not progressing as we anticipated, particularly over the last 24-48 hours."

Ramirez currently leads Boston with 15 home runs and 38 RBI for the season. He had nine hits in previous five games before suffering the injury.
