Buffalo Sabres Select Jack Eichel With No. 2 Pick In NHL Draft

BOSTON (CBS) -- As expected, Boston University standout and North Chelmsford native Jack Eichel was drafted second overall by the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.

The 18-year-old was selected in the 2015 NHL Draft after Connor McDavid went first overall to the Edmonton Oilers.

In 40 games for Boston University last season, Eichel tallied 26 goals and dished out 45 assists. He finished the season a plus-51 and took home the Hobey Baker Award, just the second freshman ever to win the prestigious award.

The Hobey Baker wasn't the only hardware Eichel took home while on the Terriers. He was also named the Hockey East Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and MVP of the Hockey East tournament. He was also the conference's scoring champion.

Eichel also won a gold medal with the World U-18 Championship in 2014, scoring five goals and dishing out five assists in seven games. He played for Team USA at the World Championships just a few months ago, scoring a pair of goals in 10 games. The US brought home a bronze medal in that tournament.

Eichel will return to Boston as a pro on Saturday, December 26, 2015 when the Sabres come to Boston.
