Dozens Displaced After 5-Alarm Fire In Nashua, NH
NASHUA, NH (CBS) – Dozens of people are displaced after a five-alarm fire tore through two buildings in Nashua, New Hampshire Monday night.
The fire started in a building on West Hollis Street at about 7:30 p.m.
Officials say the wind made the flames jump to another building. The buildings have businesses on the bottom floor and apartments on the top floors.
Resident Angela Dube says she called 911.
"I was hearing crackling sounds but my kids had poppers so I didn't think anything of it," Dube said. "I thought it was just the poppers until we heard a bunch of people screaming and then the fire alarms went off. I turned around a couple of minutes later and the whole side of the building is on fire."
At least one firefighter was taken to the hospital. The fire was knocked down by 10:00 p.m.
Christine Larouche was in her bed when she heard the screams.
"I opened up the window and they were yelling 'Fire! Fire! Get out of your apartment, get out of your apartment,'" Larouche said. "So we ran downstairs and right when I got outside the door I happened to look on the side of our building and it was on fire."
There is no word on any other injuries.
It is unclear how the fire started.
