Lawmakers Reviewing Gov. Baker's MBTA Plan

BOSTON (AP) — Some lawmakers are expressing reservations about a key aspect of Gov. Charlie Baker's plan to overhaul the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

The Legislature's Transportation Committee on Monday will hear testimony from experts who were commissioned by Baker to investigate the Boston-area transit system after it was crippled by winter weather.

Among their recommendations was a financial control board that would oversee the MBTA for the next 3 to 5 years. Baker last week accepted the resignations of the current Massachusetts transportation board and filed a bill that would establish the control board along with other proposed reforms.

Sen. Thomas McGee of Lynn, co-chair of the transportation committee, is among lawmakers who have questioned whether the new control board is necessary.
