BU Tops North Dakota In Frozen Four Semifinals

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston University Terriers are hoping to raise another banner at the TD Garden on Saturday.

The Terriers are heading to the NCAA title game following their 5-3 win over North Dakota in Thursday's Frozen Four semifinals.

Jack Eichel, BU's Hobey Baker finalist, scored on a power play just 4:59 into the first period to put the Terriers on top 1-0. Freshman defenseman Brandon Hickey added another power play goal late in the period to send the Terriers to the locker room with a two-goal advantage.

Boston University tacked on two more goals in the second period, and one more in the third.

Junior netminder Matt O'Connor made 36 saves in the win.

The 18-year-old Eichel, who led the nation with 67 points entering the Frozen Four, is a finalists for the Hobey Baker Award along with North Dakota goaltender (and Bruins prospect) Zane McIntyre and Harvard forward Jimmy Vesey. The winner will be announced on Friday.

The Terriers have already won a pair of titles at TD Garden this season, claiming the Beanpot with an overtime win over Northeastern in February and winning the Hockey East title with a 5-3 win over UMass Lowell in late March.

The Terriers will go for their sixth NCAA title in school history on Saturday when they take on Providence. The Friars advanced to their second title game in school history with a 4-1 win over Omaha earlier Thursday.
