Police and fire crews were called to the Main Street library at 5:27 p.m.

Massachusetts State Police and Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council also helped with the investigation.

By 8 p.m., investigators knew it was a hoax.

"At no time was any member of the public in danger," Sergeant Joseph E. Bennett said in a press statement.

Hopkinton Police Department is still investigating the incident.
