Krug: 'I Want To Play In Boston As Long As I Play In The NHL'
BOSTON (CBS) - On Thursday afternoon down at the TD Garden Pro Shop Studio, 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand were joined by Bruins defenseman Torey Krug to discuss his recent contract extension, the improved play of the team as of late and much more.
On Friday of last week, the Bruins inked both Torey Krug and Reilly Smith to contract extensions. Krug's deal is for $3.4 million in 2015-16.
Even though it's only a one year deal, the 23-year-old Krug is happy to be able to stay in Boston.
"I'm very excited especially with the way things went last summer. It was a long and stressful summer that took a toll on myself and my training. This year I don't have to think about it and I can just concentrate on playoff hockey," Krug said.
"It kind of just came together with the way things worked out. We kind of knew that it was going to be a stressful summer [ahead]. Looking forward I always want to play in Boston as long as I play in the NHL. Hopefully this leads to a longer deal."
The Bruins are riding on a three-game winning streak and hold a spot as the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Krug is enjoying the win streak and the team's play after an overall down season so far.
"Its a fun game right now. It's a great time to be playing hockey because we're playing a lot of games and for our team it's important to be rewarded. We've been playing some good hockey for awhile now and still being on the losing side of things, we haven't been able to capture those two points we set out to get every night and now we do," Krug told Zolak & Bertrand.
Reilly Smith was asked about it earlier on Toucher & Rich, and Krug shared the same sentiment expressed by his teammate. Now that the trade deadline has come and gone, the Bruins are able to play a more relaxed brand of hockey.
The B's are 3-1 since the deadline.
"[The turnaround] has been a combination of the trade deadline with [general manager] Peter Chiarelli showing big belief in our group. Guys are starting to play stress-free. But at the same time the team's mentality I think is very important when guys aren't really worried about personal stats now and it's just about winning games."
If the Bruins are able to keep up their hot streak, they could potentially be a dangerous out as a low playoff seed.
Boston returns to action Thursday night at home against Tampa Bay.
