Zolak Does 180, Now Sold On Jameis Winston

BOSTON (CBS) - The NFL Combine finishes up Monday in Indianapolis with the on-field workouts of the defensive back prospects, but one of the bigger storylines for many came just a few days ago when Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston wowed Steve Mariucci in the interview room.

(You can watch it here)

Mariucci drew on a white board one of his favorite red zone plays, went through everybody's responsibilities and what the quarterback should be looking for as the play develops. Winston stood up to draw the play, but was instructed to sit back down.

Mariucci continued to chat with Winston, and after a few minutes passed he had to re-draw the play, complete with keys and check downs, only this time it wasn't fresh in Winston's mind. Winston aced Mariucci's test, and all reports indicate that the former Heisman-winner was impressive in interview rooms all week long.

Winston's football acumen was not lost on former NFL quarterback and Sports Hub personality Scott Zolak, who, like many, have been critical of the young man in the past for his many slip-ups.

After watching the interview with Mariucci, Zolak is more than sold on Jameis Winston and his ability to succeed at the NFL level.

"Winston is by far the no. 1 pick in the draft. End [the discussion] now. No. 1 pick. Get the deal going now. Marcus Mariota will be Ryan Tannehill, maybe not even that. If Mariota goes second or third pick he will be a bust. He's just quiet. He gets in line. He's just happy to be there; clean cut, well spoken, speak-when-spoken-to and all that. He doesn't jump out to me. I need a guy that jumps out to me with confidence.

"My program is in disarray. I need somebody to come in and take it and put it on their shoulders. Mariota ain't that guy. He ain't anywhere near it. I'm sorry. I think a guy like Jameis Winston can put a team on his back when he needs to. He's done that at Florida State."

Are you sold on Jameis Winston like Zo is?
