Teen With Cerebral Palsy Inspires Northeastern Basketball Team

BOSTON (CBS) - On Wednesday, the Northeastern University basketball team was gearing up for a big night against William and Mary. Like most top programs they have talented players, great coaches and spirited fans, but this team has something even greater.

Head Coach Bill Coen says, "We were very, very fortunate to get associated with him he means so much to our team."

Their secret weapon sits on the end of the bench every game and every practice.

Fifteen-year-old Max Plansky has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair, but he is an official member of the team. He has a jersey and a locker and his father says the experience has changed his life.

Michael Plansky says, "It gives him a sense of self-worth because he is part of Northeastern."

But it didn't just change Max's life, it's having an impact on his team they didn't expect.

"He's a part of the team," player Scott Eatherton says. "We like having him around he's an inspiration to all of us."

Max makes them smile and reminds these top athletes what is important and how to really win.

Coach Coen says, "he wakes up with a smile and is a great example to our guys."
