Krug: Bruins Improving, But Not Out Of Woods Yet

BOSTON (CBS) - Don't look now, but your Boston Bruins have won two games in a row, climbing back into the NHL playoff picture in the process.

For the first time in 2015, on Friday afternoon, 98.5 the Sports Hub's Andy Gresh and Scott Zolak had on Bruins defenseman Torey Krug for his weekly interview.

New Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs was introduced earlier this week, and he didn't mince words when he made an assessment of his hockey team.

"I'd say without question this has been a very disappointing year," Jacobs said on Tuesday. "It's unacceptable the way this team has performed given the amount of time, money and effort that's been spent on this team. To see it deliver the way it has is unacceptable."

The Bruins currently hold a 21-15-6 record (4th in the Atlantic Division), and while it's not the type of mark we saw last year when they won the Presidents' Trophy, there's some signs of life shown recently that are encouraging to fans.

(Plus, it doesn't hurt when your boss openly calls you out)

"It was very important [to respond to Jacobs' comments]," Krug told Gresh & Zolak. "He's our boss, and we're always being evaluated. That's our job; to come to the rink everyday and put the best product on the ice as we possibly can, and it's up to us to perform."

The Bruins are now 2-0 since the Jacobs press conference, and while they needed overtime to get an extra point against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, the Bruins easily handled the Devils last night.

"It was very important for us to come back [and respond] in those games and make sure we had a chance to win them. More importantly, we got back to our style of hockey, and we're starting to do that [more]," said Krug. "We're definitely not out of the woods yet. There's still a lot of work to do.  But credit the guys in this locker room; we're all working hard and trying to come out of this together."

Before this two-game win streak began, frustrations boiled over in practice on Tuesday between Krug and Brad Marchand, who engaged in a minor tussle during drills.

"We were just battling in front [of the net]. I know we made a couple jokes, and it started over our height difference," Krug said in jest.

"It was just a battle in practice, our hands came up high and it really wasn't too much of a fight; just a little bit of wrestling. After that we were smiling and back to our normal selves. It was good though. I thought it was important to raise the compete level in practice and our intensity, and who knows maybe it was good for us."
