Report: Red Sox Acquire Wade Miley
BOSTON (CBS) -- After losing out on free agent Jon Lester, the Boston Red Sox have acquired someone they hope will help fill the void in their starting rotation.
The Red Sox acquired lefty Wade Miley from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.
In return, Boston reportedly will send Allen Webster, Rubby De La Rosa and a minor leaguer to Arizona.
The 28-year-old Miley is coming off an 8-12 season in Arizona where he sported a 4.34 ERA and 1.40 WHIP in 33 starts. In his four-year career, Miley has amassed a 38-35 record with a 3.79 ERA and 1.32 WHIP.
He's not necessarily the ace the Red Sox need, but he has been durable throughout his career. He pitched over 200 innings in each of the last two seasons, and tossed 194.2 innings back in 2012.
As with any pitcher switching leagues, there are some concerns about going from the NL West to the AL East. In five career starts against AL East foes, Miley is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA. He went 5-3 with a 4.44 ERA in 12 career Interleague starts with Arizona.
But the Red Sox have another young arm for their rotation, and they are far from finished this offseason.
98.5 The Sports Hub's Adam Jones was on the air when the Miley trade went down.
Jones and Keefe started doing a little research on the pitcher and they described him as a "soft-tossing lefty" whose fastball tops out at 91mph. He's a ground ball pitcher with a tremendous pickoff move to first base, so much so that he hardly gets run on.
