BOSTON (CBS) — Aaron Hernandez was indicted on Thursday for a double murder in Boston in 2012.

Police believe Hernandez, who has also been charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd in June 2013, shot and killed Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado in the early hours of July 16, 2012.

About six weeks later, in August 2012, Hernandez signed an extension with the Patriots. The contract was for five years, with a maximum value of $40 million.

The deal was signed near the end of training camp, but a comment from Hernandez at the very start of training camp stands out today.

In audio available on the Patriots’ official website, which was unearthed Thursday by’s Eric Wilbur on Twitter, Hernandez was asked if his summer was as crazy as his teammate and fellow tight end, Rob Gronkowski.

“More private,” Hernandez said with a laugh. “But with that said, I still had some fun.”

The comments were made on July 27, 2012 — just 11 days after Hernandez was allegedly involved in the South End double murder.

Hernandez was then asked for some specifics about his “fun.”

“That’s still private, but next question,” a chuckling Hernandez said.

When asked if he had a favorite moment from the “Summer of Gronk,” Hernandez said, “I just chill. I don’t pay attention and listen to all that stuff. I’m sure he was having fun and I definitely get laughs when people tell me about some stuff. But I’m more laid-back, chill, and just relaxing.”

Hernandez was then asked about photos that surfaced of Tom Brady cliff diving, and his answer to that question also shines in a new light, given recent information.

“This is a regular job. We like to have fun, too,” Hernandez said. “I’ve been zip-lining and stuff like that, too, and they really can’t tell you what you can do and what you can’t do. You’ve just gotta be careful about what you do. If you’re out there being reckless and doing some crazy stuff and you injure yourself, then that’s your own stupidity. But I say as long as you’re safe with it and you take care of yourself, you should be fine.”
