Franklin County Heroin Conference To Be Held

GREENFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The task force leading Franklin County's efforts to fight heroin addiction is holding an open conference this week.

The conference is scheduled for Monday at Greenfield Community College. It's free and open to the public.

Featured speakers include officials from other parts of the state who will share their strategies and tools to battle the rising tide of opioid addiction.

The district attorney's office in January counted nine suspected overdose deaths in one 40-day period in Franklin and Hampshire counties.

Franklin Register of Probate and Family Court John Merrigan, with Franklin County Sheriff Christopher Donelan and Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan, formed the Opioid Education and Awareness Task Force last year.
