BOSTON (CBS) — Want to ride aboard the USS Constitution for its annual Fourth of July cruise of Boston Harbor? The official lottery for a seat on the cruise opened Monday morning.
One hundred and fifty people will be selected for a seat. This year’s voyage will be the final voyage until 2018, as “Old Ironsides” undergoes restorations and repairs.
The annual July 4 turnaround cruise celebrates the nation’s birthday by firing from Constitution’s saluting batteries a 21-gun salute exchange with Fort Independence located on Castle Island. The voyage is about 4.5 miles total and lasts approximately three hours.
Each lottery winner will be allowed to bring one guest between the ages of 8 and 70 years old and must be able to walk and climb aboard the boat in all weather conditions. Entries must be made by completing the entry form on Constitution’s official website and returning it by e-mail or standard mail.
All lottery entries must be received by noon on April 15, with the drawing scheduled for April 30. Lottery entries are limited to one per household, and winners will be notified by e-mail and standard mail.
