Franklin Park Zoo Asks For Public's Help To Name Baby Zebra

BOSTON (CBS) – A zebra was recently born at the Franklin Park Zoo and officials are asking the public to help name him.

The Grevy's zebra was born on October 16 and is the offspring of Evita and Menelik. The foal weighs 106 pounds and is in good health.

"I am thrilled to announce this significant birth. We have been very successful in breeding Grevy's zebras at Franklin Park Zoo and each birth contributes greatly to the future survival of this endangered species," said John Linehan, Zoo New England President and CEO. "As with any new birth, we are closely monitoring the mother and baby. Evita is an experienced mother and is doing everything a mother zebra should be doing."

The baby zebra is not yet on exhibit at the zoo.

Some of the names selected by the zoo are inspired by the Boston Red Sox. The names the public can vote on are: Jakobi, Hodari, Papi and Koji.

You can vote on the zoo's Facebook page.
