Chandler Jones: Sky Is The Limit For Patriots' Defense

BOSTON (CBS) - The New England Patriots are 3-0, and a lot of that has to do with the play of their defense.

On Sunday they held the Buccaneers to just three points in a 23-3 win. Though their first three opponents aren't all that gifted on offense, the Patriots defense has only allowed 27 points. They've come up with stops when they needed them over the first three weeks, and defensive end Chandler Jones says the sky is the limit for this group.

"Our defense is playing very well," Jones said in an interview on WBZ-TV's Sports Final on Sunday night. "The sky is the limit. If everyone does their job and everyone executes the game plan that is put together for us, we should be fine."

Jones had one of three sacks for the Patriots on Sunday and added two other hits on Tampa quarterback Josh Freeman. He's up to three sacks in his second NFL season, though he credits corner Aqib Talib's stellar defense for a few of them.

"He had a great game (on Sunday). These last few weeks he's been playing great, he's been stepping up big," Jones said of Talib. "I credit some of my sacks to him; coverage sacks. He jams those receivers up, and if the he jams them up and the QB is sitting there holding the ball it's a piece of cake."

"I might take him out to dinner," he said with a big smile.

Things get a little tougher for the Patriots, with road games in Atlanta and Cincinnati followed by the Saints at home. But Jones and his fellow defenders are looking forward to the challenge.

"I'm excited. Our biggest thing is just staying focused and take it a week at a time," he said. "If you start to look ahead or look back that's when you get caught up with what everyone else is doing. If we stay with our nose to the grindstone and stick with the task at hand we should be fine."
