Gregory Campbell Will Play For Bruins Against Red Wings On Thursday Night

BOSTON (CBS) -- Gregory Campbell is ready to return.

Just a little over three months after suffering a broken leg in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference finals, Campbell will return to game action tonight at the TD Garden, as the Bruins welcome the Detroit Red Wings in a preseason matchup at 7 p.m.

Campbell has been practicing with the team but did not play in either of the team's first two preseason games. He's expressed to reporters that he felt ready to play, and that the decision was up to the team's medical and coaching staff. He got the OK for Thursday night, and he'll likely receive a hearty welcome from the fans, who last saw him on June 5, when he completed his penalty-killing shift despite breaking his leg when he blocked an Evgeni Malkin shot.
