Middleboro Police Shoot Man After Woman Killed

MIDDLEBORO (CBS) - Middleboro police shot a man early Friday morning shortly after a woman was shot and killed at a home.

Officers were called to a house on Highland Street just after midnight.

They found a woman shot in the chest and her husband and another person performing CPR on her.

Witnesses told police there was a man in the driveway with a gun.

When officers approached him, they say they told him several times to drop the long barrel firearm.

He didn't and he was shot by police.

Both the man and woman were taken to the hospital.

The woman, who died, has been identified as 65-year-old Norma DesRoche. The man who was shot by police has been identified as 52-year-old Thomas Buttimer. Police say he had been staying at the Highland Street home.

Buttimer is expected to survive and is charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm.

A neighbor told WBZ-TV's Sera Congi gunfire had been heard near the home recently.
