Two Bruins Fans Behind Tuukka Rask's Mask

BOSTON (CBS) - Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask has had an impressive year, leading his team to the Stanley Cup Final. While his stats are impressive, his one-of-a-kind mask is also getting a lot of attention.

The mask was made by two Bruins fans.

Dom Malerba, owner of Pro's Choice in Middleton, works with the hockey equipment company Vaughn to create custom goalie masks.

Fans Behind Tuukka Rask's Mask

He created Rask's mask when the Bruins acquired him a few years ago. Using a mold of Rask's face, he formed the shell of the mask around it.

"When they put the mask on it feels like they're putting on a glove," says Malerba.

The mask's artwork was designed by Ron Slater of Woburn.

"Overly big teeth, sparkly red glowing eyes," Slater says of the mean-looking bear, "and the claws kind of coming over the top and grabbing on the Bruins logo like the bear is saying 'this is my town and no one is going to mess with it.'"

For the Bruins fans, it's an honor to see their work getting a lot of attention.

"It's kind of a dream come true," says Slater. "This is the next closest thing to me myself being in the Stanley Cup, just through my art."
