Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Reportedly Conscious, Communicating With Investigators

BOSTON (CBS) -- CBS News has confirmed with law enforcement officials that Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is conscious and responding in writing to authorities.

No further details on what authorities are asking Tsarnaev or his responses were available Sunday night.

Tsarnaev and his older brother, Tamerlan, who died after a shootout with police in Watertown, are accused of planting two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon last Monday. A gravely injured Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured Friday night after he was found hiding in a boat stored in a Watertown resident's back yard.

The 19-year-old is being treated for multiple injuries at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. One of the teen's injuries is a gunshot wound to the neck. Officials have said he probably would have died of his injuries if he had not been found and captured Friday night.
