Rep. Tierney Asks Supporters For Money After Campaign Win

BOSTON (AP) — U.S. Rep. John Tierney is trying to beef up his campaign account after a bitter re-election campaign.

The Salem Democrat narrowly squeezed out a win over Republican Richard Tisei in the state's 6th District last month.

Tierney's campaign was dogged by questions about what he knew of an illegal offshore gambling ring involving his wife's family.

In an email to supporters, Tierney said he raised more than $2.1 million for the campaign, which all but wiped out his account.

Federal Election Commission reports show Tierney had about $21,000 in his account Nov. 26.

Tierney's email says it's time to rebuild his campaign coffers and show strength early in 2013.

Tierney said Republican Tea Party leaders made him "their number one target in 2012" and won't hesitate to try again.
