Masked Man Robs Medford Jewelry Store

MEDFORD (CBS) - A masked thief smashed display cabinets at a jewelry store in Medford and ran off with several gold chains on Sunday morning.

The robbery occurred at Marcou Jewelers at the Meadow Glen Mall in Medford after 11 a.m. while the mall was filled with shoppers.

An eyewitness saw the masked suspect minutes after he allegedly smashed the display case, possibly with an ax of some sort.

"I saw a man, which seemed to be a man, run by. He had a hoodie on, and it looked like a mask," said the witness. "He had a bag in his hand and a pick, like an ice pick. It looked like or some type of ax."

Another witness told WBZ-TV the suspect had ducked into a nearby photo booth seconds before the robbery and put on the mask. The booth is now covered with crime tape.

Police said the jewelry store's manager chased the suspect out of the mall.

State and local police rushed to the scene and searched the area with dogs, but the culprit escaped.

Nobody was hurt.

The suspect is described as a man around 5'11". He was wearing a black hooded sweat shirt, a black mask with a white skeletal type impression, and black pants.
