State Gets Money Found In Abandoned Safe In Lawrence
LAWRENCE (CBS) - The long strange saga of a fortune locked away in a safe is over, and the government is winning the treasure.
Three years ago, 2,000 pound safe was found abandoned in a vacant lot in Lawrence.
When police opened it up, they found $178,000 dollars inside.
The safe originally came from a shoe store owned for years by Sally Daher, who hid the money and never told anyone.
Now according to the Eagle Tribune, a judge is giving the money to the state. Daher spent the last five years of her life in a nursing home and picked up some of the costs.
