EASTON (CBS) – Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek is taking part in a fundraiser next month to raise money for the D.J. Dream Fund, named after D.J. Henry. Henry was the Pace College student from Easton shot and killed by police in New York.

The fundraiser is being held by Makeovers Salon and Spa in Easton.

Varitek’s fiancé, Catherine Panagiotopolous, is the spa’s business manager.

She says what happened to D.J. was terrible.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Carl Stevens reports

“He was a good kid, she said. “He was a friend of the owners… who are very active in the community. Never was in trouble ever.”

The fundraiser is on September 18.

There will be a hair runway show, an auction of sports memorabilia and other events.

All proceeds will go the D.J. Dream Fund.
