Red Sox Place Pitchers Matsuzaka & Hill On DL, Call Up Hottovy
BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Red Sox have placed right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka on the 60-day disabled list amid reports he has decided to have reconstructive elbow surgery that could sideline him for at least 12 months.
The Red Sox said Friday that Matsuzaka has a right elbow sprain. They had placed him on the 15-day disabled list May 18, retroactive to May 17.

Since the Red Sox signed him before the 2007 season to a six-year, $52 million contract, plus $51.1 million to the Seibu Lions for the right to negotiate with him, Matsuzaka is 49-30 with a 4.25 ERA. His contract expires after next season.
Boston also placed lefty reliever Rich Hill on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left elbow.
