Somerset Residents Told Not To Drink The Water

SOMERSET (CBS) -- People in Somerset are being told Tuesday night not to drink their water after a cross connection occurred with a hydroseeding company.

Officials say the company was connected to a fire hydrant and some of the hydroseeding material was put in the water main and water supply.

The town's water department is flushing the hydrants in the affected areas and collecting samples to analyze.

Until further notice, residents are told to use bottled water or water from another source, not their taps. That includes for drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, brushing teeth or any other way water may be consumed.

Residents who need water can get bottled water at the Emergency Management Agency at 2435 Riverside Avenue.

The town says it will notify residents when it is again safe to drink the water.
