Cigarette Sparks Devastating Fire At Waterfront Law Firm
NORTH END (CBS) – A carelessly disposed cigarette is to blame for a fire that gutted a law firm on Commercial Wharf early Wednesday morning.
Investigators say an employee of the Klieman and Lyons law offices went out on a deck to have a cigarette break late Monday night. That cigarette smoldered and eventually sparked a three-alarm fire just after 5 a.m.
WBZ-TV's Alana Gomez reports.
About 75 firefighters were called in, including a dive team to fight the fire underneath the pier and on the building's first floor.
Six firefighters were hurt. All were treated at Massachusetts General Hospital for minor injuries.
WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Kim Tunnicliffe reports.

Damage is estimated at $3 million.
"It's kind of sad seeing 31 years of work go up in flames. I'm just hopeful there's something left," attorney Steve Lyons told WBZ-TV.
Lyons' partner, Rikki Klieman, is an anchor at TruTV.
