The teen tax preparers are certified by the IRS following their training through the National Academy Foundation.

Bahrennberg says the kids usually catch any mistakes before the forms are filed.

The population of Monticello is less than 7,000, while the unemployment rate is around 15%. Bahrenberg says the teens learn some important life lessons.

Tax returns were prepared for 99 low income neighbors. Bahrenberg says people often want to express their gratitude for the service.
