Salem Mayor Won't Run For Senate

SALEM (AP) - Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll says she will not be a candidate for the Democratic nomination to challenge Republican Sen. Scott Brown.

Driscoll issued a statement Tuesday saying she believes the seat is winnable for a Democrat but she enjoys her job as mayor and has unfinished business for the city "before I can think of moving on."

She cited Salem's budget problems, the future of the Salem power plant, and waterfront and transportation developments.

No high-profile Democrats have announced they will seek the nomination to challenge Brown, who last year upset the political landscape by winning a special election for the seat held by the late Edward Kennedy.
