Road Salt Causing Some Commuter Line Delays

BOSTON (CBS) – It's been the week from hell for just about anyone who rides the T or the commuter line.

We all know the heavy snow and the bitter cold air plays a role in delays, but did you know that road salt shares part of the blame as well?

Scott Farmelant, the spokesperson for the Mass Bay Commuter Rail, which runs the commuter line, said salt on the tracks from road crews will cause false signals and delays.

"That requires trains down the line to stop," he told WBZ-TV.

And that's how some of the backups begin.
