Spader Trial Witness Charged With Burglary

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) -- A key New Hampshire witness in the deadly Mont Vernon home invasion case has been charged with burglary.

Police say 20-year-old Eldon Spikes of Amherst was held at gunpoint by an Amherst homeowner who discovered him in his residence near midnight Tuesday.

Police say Spikes forced his way into the house through a back door.

He is being held on $25,000 bond pending a court appearance Jan. 20.

Spikes testified in October that his friend, Steven Spader of Brookline, threatened to kill him if Spikes talked to police about the home invasion.

Spader is serving a life sentence for killing Kimberly Cates and wounding her 11-year-old daughter with a machete.

He was also convicted of tampering with a witness for threatening Spikes.
