Car crashes into Saugus River: 1 dead, 1 saved
REVERE (WBZ) -- One person was killed and a second was rescued after their car crashed and sank into a river Wednesday morning.
It happened just before 8 a.m. off of Route 107 on the Revere-Saugus line.
Revere police told WBZ NewsRadio two women were in the car when it either lost a tire or had a blowout. The car went out of control and into the water.
One woman was rescued by people passing by the scene.
The other was buckled in her seat belt and trapped in the car.
When state police divers found her she was dead.
Fire officials identified the driver as 61-year-old Anna Perkowski of Peabody.
The passenger's name hasn't been released.
State police recovered the vehicle and are investigating.
