Located right beyond Boston's city limits, these places are ideal for those looking to get out and horseback ride. Many of these stables offer horseback riding, pony parties, guide trail rides and stable boarding. There's an excellent summer camp plan for children to have daily horseback riding lessons and other games such as sports and crafts. This family oriented farm offers riding and even beach riding only a short drive from Boston. And what sets Patch Wood apart from all the rest is that they board puppies, too. This is a great adventure for children and Patch Wood also offers lessons to everyone of all levels, beginning with $30 a lesson for a half hour. Summer camp registration is in full swing and spots are going quickly. Patch Wood is located on six acres with numerous trails as well as state recreational trail access.

Minutes from Boston, Indian Rock boasts miles and miles of trails through Lynn Woods Reservation; a recipient of the Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation 2015 Horse Farm of Distinction. Award. Indian Rock provides a special level of training for both beginners and those who are more advanced. Lessons are available from $35 a half hour/ and up with private and group options. Gift certificates are available to treat that riders to lessons as well as child activities that include summer camp and pony parties. Indian Rock also offers opportunity to be in the Show Pen, in which many have been awarded for presentation.

Sage Farm is home to the 2013 USEF Pony Rider Dressage National Champion and specialized training for children eight years old and up. Lessons start at $60 an hour and Sage is currently accepting applications for summer camp, where children will learn the fine art of grooming, daily horse care, parts of the horse, and basic horsemanship skills. Students may also be eligible to participate in horse shows. Sage offers a four acre facility and also takes pride in their goats and distinct variety of birds.
