85-Year-Old Man Killed In Yarmouth Hit-And-Run Crash

YARMOUTH (CBS) – An 85-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Yarmouth on Tuesday morning. The victim has been identified as Alexander Gribko.

Police said Gribko was discovered by a Yarmouth Department of Natural Resources Officer at about 7:30 a.m. "She came across the victim on the side of the roadway," said Yarmouth Police Lt. Kal Boghdan.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Yarmouth Fire Department.

Gribko was a familiar and friendly face to everyone in the neighborhood. "He was a nice old guy," neighbor Tom Buono said.

"He was friendly he would talk with everybody up and down the street," neighbor Phil Johnson said.

At this point police believe Gribko was walking along Winslow Gray Road between Swan Lake Road and Joshua Baker Road. Police say he lived in the area.

"He wasn't found on the main road and we currently believe he was struck on that alcove not on the main road," Boghdan said.

Neighbors are upset the driver fled and say speeding has been an issue on the road.

"People slow down when they see them but when the cops are gone, they are right back at it. I live here and I don't use that small cut through," Buono said. "Somebody must have just come flying through and too bad."

Gribko leaves behind three daughters, who tell WBZ-TV their father will be deeply missed.

Yarmouth Police are still searching for the driver and say the vehicle likely has front end damage.
