ATHOL (CBS) – A man died as a result of a crash on South Main street in Athol Monday night. Police said the 59-year-old man lost control of his car while navigating a curve and hit another car head-on in the opposite lane.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said firefighters needed to use cutting equipment to remove the body from the wrecked car.

His identity has not been released at this time.

The other driver was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
