BOSTON (CBS) — Bill Belichick’s press conference took an unexpected turn into global politics on Wednesday morning.

It happened after the Patriots’ head coach was asked for his reaction to Acting Secretary Of Defense Christopher Miller using Belichick’s “Do Your Job” mantra in a letter to Department of Defense employees.

“Well, I really appreciate the kind words from Secretary Miller,” Belichick said in a video conference with Patriots reporters. “When you consider the type of leadership that he’s shown throughout his career serving our country, it really means a lot. I’m flattered by the reference that he made.”

Belichick then used that opportunity to speak out in favor of the United States taking action against Turkey for supporting Azerbaijan’s attacks on Armenians.

“I’ll just say, while while we’re on the subject, I read his point about combating traditional threats. And I couldn’t help but think and hope that we’ve seen from other countries around the world, and I hope that our country will take action against Turkey and Azerbaijan for their unprovoked and deadly attacks on Armenians,” Belichick said. “We’ve seen that when a humanitarian crisis and things like that, like ethnic cleaning, go unpunished, that they just continue to happen. I hope that we can put a stop to that.”

Belichick has spoken out in this particular area before, in a video for director of football/head coach administration Berj Najarian’s Instagram page.

“I have learned that throughout Armenian history, regardless of any adversity or tragedy, the Armenian people have continued to thrive and persevere,” Belichick said in that video. “I hope and pray for peace, justice, and the safety of the brave soldiers that are fighting for their nation’s recognition and freedom.”

Najarian, who’s been with the Patriots since February of 2000, generally operates in the background as Belichick’s “right-hand man.” But he’s been outspoken about matters pertaining to Armenia, including during a Patriots trip to the White House after winning a Super Bowl. Najarian said that he directly told Barack Obama that the president should ignore the pressure from Turkey and recognize the genocide in Armenia.

Belichick wore an Armenian flag on his lapel during that trip to the White House.

That’s great, but where’s Bill’s social conscience when it comes time to urge his friends in the Trump administration to pay attention to the massive loss of life due to a pandemic they steadfastly refuse to take seriously, a health care system they’ve whacked apart, a climate catastrophe they deny exists?

      100% right

Look at a map. The Azeris went through a genoicde of their own at the hands of the Armenians in the 80s creating millions of Azeri refugees. There have been countless border provocations over the years by the Armenians to expand. In this case the Armenians were allowed to leave in peace with their belongings killing on SOLDIERS and NOT targeting CIVILIANS. N-Karabakh is literally in the middle of Azerbaijan. Armenia has no natural resources and a crumbling economy. The Armenians attacked and bombed civilian towns in an attempt to get a reaction from the Azeris. The Azeris responded on the battlefield. They took their land back because of the idiotic actions of a lack job Armenian leader. These two neighbours can be friends and live in peace easily, but this land belongs to Azerbaijan. Not Armenia. Don’t listen to the brainwashed Armenian friends around you quoting the thousands of years ago stories nonsense.

And yet he stays silent after the senseless murder of George Floyd and other people of color at the hands of law enforcement and silent about the incompetent response to the COVID 19 pandemic. You know things that really affect Americans!!!

To say the attack on Armenians lately is genocide is ridiculous. They drove out 800,000 Azerbaijanis from the area in the 90’s which to me is mind boggling. They lost this area many years ago when Russia set the borders there and the Armenians keeps trying to claim the land back that doesn’t belong to them. No country in the world agrees that it is their land and their genocide is self afflicted by refusing to leave land to which they are invaders and no longer have any claim on it. Putin should have booted them all out when he had a chance or stayed out of it.

With all due respect, when a person does not know how to pronounce the names of the countries involved, maybe he should NOT comment? Did his friends tell him that Armenia occupied 20% of Azerbaijan and ethnically-cleansed 1 million Azerbaijanis from their land? Armenians tortured and killed over 20,000 Azerbaijanis. There were 4 UN Security Council Resolutions telling Armenia to stop, but because of powerful friends like these, Armenia was exempt from following international law, like the rest of the world. This is one of MANY videos of how Armenians took this little boy hostage and his grandmother, who raised him, is begging them not to take her grandson. So heartbreaking… Bill, how can you support this??

The Turkish and Azeri trolls with their propaganda are alive and well in this comment section. Both of these countries have a history of genocide and atrocities and both are controlled by murderous dictators… I think that says it all.

  10. Heather says:

It’s interesting that whenever historical facts are mentioned, Armenian-Americans start cursing and calling other Americans trolls, because it is not in their interests for the truth to be known. Armenia occupied 20% of Azerbaijan and ethnically-cleansed 1 million Azerbaijanis from their land. This is a fact. Additionally, over the course of the 20th century, Armenians have massacred over 185,000 Azerbaijani civilians. This is also a fact. However, I am sure Bill’s friends do not tell him any of this. Otherwise, Bill would not have made this misinformed statement.

    1. Jacob Reynolds says:

“Heather”, you are a Turkish and Azeri troll, nice try. Those are not facts, those are lies and propaganda that your terrorist dictator has brainwashed you with. These are historical Armenian lands. Turkic people did come into the Caucasus’s until centuries later. Not surprising from a country that continues to deny the Armenian Genocide that is universally accepted as a fact by world historians. I feel sorry for your uninformed and brainwashed people. Hopefully, your people will realize soon that you can keep repeating lies, but people around the world have actually have un-brainwashed brains, and can read real history books, not the ones your dictator pays to be written.

Where does one get the imagination to write a paragraph of such fair tales…
19th century? There are churches still standing today (the ones Azerbaijan has not yet destroyed) that date back to the 4th century. Everything you just mentioned is a lie and not corroborated by any historian or history books. This revisionist history is only taught in your country who will do anything to hide their atrocities and makes territorial claims. Again, I feel sorry for your brainwashed people.

Armenians continue to spread disinformation and continue to call Americans trolls, a great factual argument. Colonial Czarist Russia brought Armenians to the South Caucasus in the 19th century, and forced Azerbaijani princes to sell their lands to Russia, on which Russia settled Armenians (Yerevan is the name of the Azerbaijani princely state Erevan or Irevan). Overtime, Armenians made territorial claims for more Azerbaijani and Georgian lands. On the lands that they got, Armenians periodically massacred and ethnically cleansed Azerbaijanis and Jews until only Armenians were left, most recently in 1905, 1918 – 1920, 1988-1994. Over the course of the 20th century, 185,000 Azerbaijanis and Jews have been massacred by the Armenian Dashnak gangs (the latest mass grave was found in Quba, Azerbaijan in 2007). Currently, the entire Armenian society and the Armenian-American diaspora are calling for MORE war from their couches in California, enlisting people like Bill in their cause. Until the Armenian society, including the diaspora comes to a reckoning that peace and growth are better for Armenia than war and poverty, peace will not come.
