'Don't Touch My Sister,' Brockton Man Accused Of Trying To Kidnap 10-Year-Old Girl

BROCKTON (CBS) - A Brockton man has been arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap a girl. Police said 52-year-old Reynaldo Perez grabbed a 10-year-old girl who was with her 15-year-old sister near Union Cemetery Monday morning.

The girls were home safe Monday night and described the terrifying moments. They said they went out to buy eggs for breakfast and the man came out of nowhere.

"This man just came and he just hugged me like that and he said he wasn't going to hurt me," said 10-year-old Ganae Powell.

Ganae and her sister Kayana said they began running for their life. "I yelled at him. I said 'Don't touch my sister,'" Kayana said.

That's when police said Perez released his grip and took off running.

It happened around 11:20 Monday morning when the girls were walking back home with groceries for their grandmother. They flagged down a neighbor who called 911.

"I came to the top of the street and she's yelling 'Someone tried to kidnap your grandchild,'" said Valencia Powell, the victims' grandmother.

Perez was later arrested in the area. He has been charged with kidnapping and assault and battery.

Ganae is still shaken up, but said she is relieved. "I don't have to be like around him, so he can just keep on harassing us," Ganae said.

Their grandmother is just grateful to have her girls back home safe. "I'm so thankful to God," Powell said. "I wouldn't know where I'd be if she wasn't standing here right now."

Perez will be arraigned on Tuesday.
