Police Investigate Death Of Woman In Billerica Home

BILLERICA (CBS) – Police are investigating the suspicious death of a woman at home on Village Lane in Billerica. Police responded to a 911 call Thursday morning for an unresponsive woman. When they got to the house, they say she had died of apparent trauma.

UPDATE: Arrest Made In Death Billerica Grandmother

The victim is a 69-year-old woman who neighbor Catherine Johnson said has lived in the house for 40 years with her family.

"They were just wonderful people," Johnson said. "It's just so sad. It's very, very sad. It actually made me sick to my stomach this morning when I had seen what was going on down there."

All day police combed for evidence. Late at night, they were still collecting evidence on the second floor and searching the woods behind the home.

Neighbors are heartbroken, but say police have assured them that they are safe.

"We'll probably never be the same, but we'll carry on. It's all we can do," Johnson said.

A preliminary investigation suggests it is not a random event and there is no threat to the public.
