Man Drowns After Canoe Overturns On Wellesley Pond

WELLESLEY (CBS) – A man has drowned after a canoe accident on Longfellow Pond in Wellesley. At about 4:00 pm Monday, a 911 call reported an overturned canoe in the small pond near Route 9.

A woman who was in the canoe was able to get to shore but the man had gone under water.

Wellesley Police and Fire Departments along with dive teams from Natick and Cambridge responded to the pond.

At about 5:20 pm, divers located the man under water approximately 10 yards off shore. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is under investigation but does not appear suspicious.
