83 Rip Current Rescues Reported At Hampton Beach

HAMPTON, N.H. (CBS) -- Eighty-three people needed to be rescued from rip currents at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire Thursday.

No one was seriously injured, according to the beach's lifeguards.

Only a handful of rescues took place on Friday due to the emptiness of the beach and a strong onshore wind.

Rip currents flow away from the beach. To escape them, swim parallel to the beach, the National Weather Service advises.
